Trinity Folk - the early years

A few years ago we contacted Pete Wildman who had played with Trinity Folk and continued to make music. Pete was in India at the time and didn't reply - but seems to have got the message as he has now shared his own account of Trinity Folk and the origins of Parchment.

More on this later.
(Click on header for more...)

This led us to the best and earliest picture of Trinity Folk we have come across, with a very young Sue McClellan and John Pac probably barely in his 20s. Still a four piece and still not including Keith Rycroft, who was listed separately as a poet. The event was called Beat Capital 70 and was held in Liverpool in January 1970. Our thanks to Crossbeats for posting these programmes.

Pete recalls working with his band, His Servants, with Trinity Folk on a folk rock opera written and performed specially at this event. It was called Liverpool: City of challenge and change. I wonder what happened to it?

He had already played with Trinity Folk at the Albert Hall, London, in 1969, he records.

He then joined Keith Rycroft in a band called Dovetale - and from there Keith joined John Pac and Sue McClellan to form Parchment.

You can read more of Pete's thoughts and recollections about the period here on his blog. There is that reference to Bono citing Parchment as an inspiration. You can also find most of his music, old and new!
