Dave and Dana's other records

Before recording with Pilgrim/Grapevine Dave and Dana Price recorded one album, which appears to have been self-published: Satisfied in about 1975. This is an album of beautiful simplicity as it consists solely of Dana Lee Price singing and Dave Price playing the guitar with no accompaniment or embellishments. The songs include a couple of Appalachian folk melodies and quite a few covers, especially of songs by Lou Hayles, who was a member of Meet Jesus Music. The only self-penned song is Remain in Me, which also appears on Come on In.

Their fourth album Right Track was released by the Canadian label Rivendell in 1980 and distributed in the UK by Myrrh. Dave Price himself produced it. It uses one or two contemporary electronic effects and is a much more electric album than the earlier ones. It has six of the couple's own songs. Both albums are hugely enjoyable in their own right but maybe lack the heights that the Grapevine production teams, of Parchment and John Pantry, achieved with this couple on Come on In and Morning Star.

That's four albums by this talented couple but no news of them beyond 1980.

The Prices were heavily influenced by Lou Hayles, a singer-songwriter with Meet Jesus Music, and used her songs on all their albums.

One of Lou's solo albums has been posted on the Ancient Star Song here and includes Don't Let Them Fool You which Dave and Dana Price did a great version of on Come On In.

"Satisfied" album was recorded in Baltimore Md in August 1975 and was self-published as we began our "professional" touring at Christ Church Washington DC. as the opener for Ken Medema. Sept 1976 "Come On In" was recorded in London with John Pantry producing. "Morning Star" was produced by Sue McClellan in July 1980 in West England (a studio near Worcester). "Right Track" was recorded at a Canadian studio located about one hour east of Vancouver B.C. The 5th album "Be Still" was recorded in San Jose California and was a return to the "Satisfied" format in the sense that it was guitar and voice only but different from "Satisfied" as we were very focused on "inner healing" thematically for that album whereas in the previous albums we were trying to communicate with the wide variety of musical preferences so as to bond with the wide variety of audiences that we performed for in churches, prisons, schools, etc. - Dana

Welcome, Dana, and thanks for sharing with us. Some intriguing back-story here - working in IT at the same time as getting a musical duo going. I think you've created a challenge here - a fifth album, only on cassette tape and it's never shown up on Google!

Please let us know when your book is published. I've just enjoyed listening to the mp3 on your web-site. Have you got much more recently recorded music?

A copy of Right Track has surfaced on e-bay with some good quality photos. This is a UK version, released by Kingsway Records. Have updated the sleeve photo here with a better quality one - and also amended some of the missing links to this page.

Thanks for reminding me of the albums that Dana and I made all these years ago. It's amazing but this web page has led to contacts from people who found the albums years later and enjoyed them. I even had one guy write me last year and say that the pared down approach used on Satisfied reminded him of White Stripes and that we had pioneered that style. Well, I appreciated the comments and only wish that we had a share of Jack White's royalties! Recently we were contacted by a record company in South Korea that wants to reissue "Satisfied" - this old UK picker never ceases to be amazed at developments like these!
